Back in the day, wax was the top choice for enhancing your car's shine and protecting your paint from rain, bird poop, dirt, etc...
With the scientists' work of magic, we have an unmatched alternative for paint protection which is ceramic coating.
As a quick analogy, wax is like having a tent in a forest. Ceramic coating is like a brick house in a forest. Both get the job done but one is nowhere near like the other in strength and durability.
Ceramic coating application is not a wax-on-wax-off kind of application. It is a semi-permanent layer to your vehicle which needs to be properly installed. If improperly applied, you won't get the desired benefits and you will see the incorrect application on your paint.
Here are the benefits of Ceramic Coating
-
Produce the most durable protection that lasts between 6 months to 4 years.
-
Provides deep gloss that is incomparable to other forms of protection such as wax.
-
Unmatched hydrophobic properties and self-cleaning properties that keep your car cleaner longer and make it easier to wash
-
Capable of resisting very light swirls and scratches (this does not make your car invincible)
-
Protect your car from harmful UV rays which can oxidize and fade your paint.
Myths about Ceramic Coating
The coatings are long-lasting, durable, and create a crazy gloss on your paint finish but this does not mean you can do whatever you want with your car thinking it will correct it.
Have you seen those videos where they scratch it with a key, throw rocks at it, and even set the car on fire that has been ceramic coated? This unfortunately is not true and is a lie.
It has its limitations and it's imperative that you understand what you get and don't get. Too many times customers overshoot the protection aspect of the coating and are then disappointed when something happens to the finish.
The coating will not make your paint scratch-proof. When we say it can resist light swirls and scratches, we really mean light swirls and scratches that might be induced when washing and drying. If you drag a dirty towel across the paint, you will scratch the paint. If you drag your hand/body across the paint, you will scratch it.
The coating will not protect your paint from rock chips. The only option that can protect your paint from rock chips is paint protection film, PPF. You need to treat your coating like the clear coat on your vehicle.
The coating requires maintenance to keep it strong. Just like things that have value, the coating needs proper maintenance. It can degrade over time and not last its intended durability. Your car that has been coated needs to be properly washed, dried, and boosted with proper products to maintain its durability. If not, a 2-year coating can start breaking down after 1 year.
Here is our Ceramic Coating process:
-
Decontamination Wash to thoroughly clean your painted surfaces.
-
Tape off sensitive plastic trims to decrease the chances of them staining.
-
The paint is polished to your desired level.
-
Dedicated paint surface prep is used to remove any polishing residue.
-
The paint is then thoroughly inspected to ensure its desired level has been reached.
-
All the cracks and crevices will be cleaned
-
Ceramic Coating of your choice is then applied.
-
Paint is inspected once again to ensure the coating has properly bonded.
-
Enjoy the insane gloss and shine!

Ceramic Coating FAQs

How long does the result last?
Maintenance is key to keeping your car glossy and shiny. It's like training your pet so sit on command. You can't just tell them once and think they'll know it forever. You have to continually train them and repeat the commands.
The same goes for cars that are ceramic coated. You need to properly and routinely wash and dry your car in order to maintain its durability claims. Otherwise, you're back to square one.
You can wash them yourselves as we instruct you to or we can do it for you!

What's the difference between a wax/sealant and ceramic coating?
Wax is made to enhance shine just like coating. But the difference is wax/sealants are not formulated to withstand high heat and harsher chemicals. This means that with it being exposed to all the heat from the sun and road elements, they "melt" away and starts fading after them being attacked by all the harsh elements. Ceramic coatings are built to withstand much harsher conditions which provide you longer longevity compared to those traditional protections.
Can I wash my car after the coating is installed??
Once the coating is applied, the vehicle should not be exposed to water for the first 48 hours. After that, we do not recommend you wash your vehicle for the first two weeks to ensure the coating is fully cured without interference.
Can the ceramic coating replace the clear coat?
No. Ceramic coating is not a replacement for the clear coat, nor will help with clear coat failures, paint fading, chipping, and oxidation. While some fading and oxidation can be improved from paint correction, if the paint is deemed to be in a failing condition, it will need to be repainted.
Can I get the coating installed without prep work of paint correction?
TKDETAILS will not apply coatings to vehicles that have not gone through proper paint preparation or paint correction as you will not gain benefits of a coating without it. This is why all ceramic coating services will include 1 Stage Paint Correction to ensure the paint is free of contamination and rejuvenate the shine of your paint. Paint correction takes the majority of parts in making your vehicle shiny. The swirl marks and scratches in the car can be represented as hills and valleys in the clear coat. The paint correction process will level out, “mow” those valleys down to the nearly flat surfaces where it creates the most reflection from the light instead of those reflections being trapped inside the valley. As a cherry on top, any remaining, microscopic level of the valley left will then be “filled” with ceramic coating which enhances the shine of a vehicle. The paint correction can be upgraded to 2 Stage or Multi-Stage Paint Correction to further remove deeper scratches and swirls.
What is the 9H hardness that people talk about?
9H hardness that many manufacturers and detailers say refers to the Mohs hardness scale which goes from 1 - 10, 1 being the softest and 10 being the hardest. Diamond is rated at Mohs hardness scale of 10. While many customers believe that these "9H" coatings will provide the hardness level that can resist swirls and scratches, these are just marketing terms. If you wipe your car with a dry towel or touch with your fingernails which is rated at a Mohs scale of 2, they will scratch. It is important that you do should not get your car ceramic coated because of its "hardness", but rather for the amazing benefits that ceramic coatings provide.
