Decontamination Wash / Maintenance Wash FAQs

Does this include a wax/sealant?
Yup! All Decontamination Wash/Maintenance Wash includes a spray sealant that provides a shine and protection that last a few weeks. If you'd like to add a deeper level of shine and protection to your paint, I suggest you check out the Wax/Sealant service.

How long does the wash take?
It depends on the size and condition of your vehicle, but generally between 1.5 to 2 hours.

Classic Paint Protection FAQs

How long will they last?
It depends on how your car is stored. If it is garaged at home and/or work most of the time, it can last up to the durability claimed. If your car is always sitting outside in the sun, cold, and rain, it will be much shorter. You can extend the durability by layering wax and sealant together.

The durability of wax and sealants are reduced if you wash your car with dish soap since they start stripping the protective layer that wax/sealants provide.

How long does the result last?
Maintenance is key to keeping your car glossy and shiny. It's like training your pet so sit on command. You can't just tell them once and think they'll know it forever. You have to continually train them and repeat the commands.
The same goes for cars that are paint corrected. You need to properly and routinely wash and dry your car in order to maintain a swirl-free finish. Otherwise, you're back to square one.

What's the difference between wax and paint correction?
Wax does not remove any swirls or scratches from your paint. It may hide very minor swirls, which are usually done within a few hours. Paint correction actually removes the swirls and/or scratches in your paint. This is what makes your paint shine crazy. The process takes substantially more time and energy to complete compared to applying wax.

Ceramic Coating FAQs

How long does the result last?
Maintenance is key to keeping your car glossy and shiny. It's like training your pet to sit on command. You can't just tell them once and think they'll know it forever. You have to continually train them and repeat the commands.

The same goes for cars that are ceramic-coated. You need to properly and routinely wash and dry your car in order to maintain its durability claims. Otherwise, you're back to square one.

You can wash them yourselves as we instruct you to or we offer a maintenance wash service so you can sit on the couch while your car becomes beautiful again!

What's the difference between a wax/sealant and ceramic coating?
Wax is made to enhance shine just like coating. But the difference is wax/sealants are not formulated to withstand high heat and harsher chemicals. This means that with it being exposed to all the heat from the sun and road elements, they "melt" away and starts fading after them being attacked by all the harsh elements. Ceramic coatings are built to withstand much harsher conditions which provide longer longevity compared to traditional protections.

Can I wash my car after the coating is installed??
Once the coating is applied, the vehicle should not be exposed to water for the first 48 hours. After that, we do not recommend you wash your vehicle for the first two weeks to ensure the coating is fully cured without interference.

Can the ceramic coating replace the clear coat?
No. Ceramic coating is not a replacement for the clear coat, nor will help with clear coat failures, paint fading, chipping, and oxidation. While some fading and oxidation can be improved from paint correction, if paint is deemed to be in a failing condition, it will need to be repainted.

Can I get the coating installed without the prep work of paint correction?
TKDETAILS will not apply coatings to vehicles that have not gone through proper paint preparation or paint correction, as you will not gain the benefits of a coating without it. This is why all ceramic coating services will include 1 Stage Paint Correction to ensure the paint is free of contamination and rejuvenate the shine of your paint. Paint correction takes the majority of parts in making your vehicle shiny. The swirl marks and scratches in the car can be represented as hills and valleys in the clear coat. The paint correction process will level out, “mow” those valleys down to the near-flat surfaces, where it creates the most reflection from the light instead of those reflections being trapped inside the valley. As a cherry on top, any remaining microscopic level of the valley left will then be “filled” with ceramic coating, which enhances the shine of a vehicle. The paint correction can be upgraded to 2 Stage or Multi-Stage Paint Correction to further remove deeper scratches and swirls.

What is the 9H hardness that people talk about?
9H hardness that many manufacturers and detailers say refers to the Mohs hardness scale, which goes from 1 - 10, 1 being the softest and 10 being the hardest. Diamond is rated at the Mohs hardness scale of 10. While many customers believe that these "9H" coatings will provide the hardness level that can resist swirls and scratches, these are just marketing terms. If you wipe your car with a dry towel or touch it with your fingernails, which is rated at a Mohs scale of 2, they will scratch. It is important that you do not get your car ceramic coated because of its "hardness", but rather for the amazing benefits that ceramic coatings provide.
